What is the difference between periodic service and breakdown service?
Quick answer
Periodic service is scheduled maintenance done on a calendar or kilometre interval — oil, filters, brakes, chain and inspection — before anything fails. Breakdown service is reactive: the bike has stopped, stalled or will not start, and the mechanic diagnoses and fixes that specific fault, often at the roadside.
The cost logic differs too. Periodic service is a fixed package price because the scope is known in advance. Breakdown work starts with diagnosis — free — because the scope is not knowable until the fault is found, then the fix is quoted and approved.

Which one do I need?
If the bike is running fine and it is just due, book periodic service. If something has gone wrong — noise, no-start, leak — book a repair or breakdown visit.
Can a breakdown visit replace a service?
No — they fix different problems. A bike can be repaired and still be overdue for its oil, filters and chain.
